Tekra champions new and innovative technologies, and is at the forefront of delivering the highest quality materials to realize the vision of device designers in the medical films and adhesives market. Often we’re at the ground floor helping to shape inspiration into spec and then through final completion.
It’s a challenging position to be in especially when it comes to the medical marketplace. Few other industries are as dynamic, forward thinking, and yet as fiercely competitive or quality driven. Tekra meets the challenge with the support of materials from world-class medical film suppliers who are as deeply committed to delivering innovative JIT or custom solutions as the medical market visionaries.
Being the exclusive distributor of DuPont Teijin Films™ PET films in North America has its benefits particularly for medical diagnostic devices. With a relationship spanning decades, Tekra and DuPont® will often work collaboratively to make ideal solutions possible. This solid expertise is one reason why Tekra is the preferred medical film supplier of components for blood glucose and diagnostic testing applications in North America.
When coupling Tekra’s wide range of proprietary coatings with the range of DuPont’s polyester films and conductive inks, 3M™ Medical Materials and Technologies, and SABIC’s LEXAN™ polycarbonate (which excels in thermoforming applications), virtually any medical application requirement can be realized. Common uses of these combinations include:

Tekra is at the forefront providing flexible, durable, and versatile materials that bring innovation to realization. Henkel Electronic Materials (or polymer thick films) are called upon specifically when innovation and precise function need to converge in biosensor medical products. These components, when paired with films and adhesives designed to medical standards, allow device manufacturers to realize the efficiency of high-speed processing without sacrificing quality and performance.
Henkel Electronic Materials' conductive inks allow printed circuitry compatibility with organic reagents to perform multiple diagnostic functions and are manufactured in strict conformance to cGMP guidelines.
Also known as polyethylene terephthalate, DuPont Melinex® and Mylar® PET films are an ideal substrate for a wide variety of medical specialties. PET films are highly regarded for their tensile strength to withstand significant tension – both in production as well as in final end product use. Known for chemical and dimensional stability, PET films have outstanding transparency or opacity, uniform surface characteristics, are chemically non-reactive, and are manufactured in thickness from sub 1 mil to 20 mils.
Specific production outcomes may require Tekra to apply proprietary coatings to PET films or other substrates. Tekra has coating formulations to meet the most stringent medical device requirements. Examples of these coating formulations include: stability under extreme UV exposure, withstanding abrasion, chemical resistance managing hydrophilic or hydrophobic properties, and super smooth planarized surfaces.
3M’s global achievements have brought innovation to market resulting in meaningful products. Over time, 3M technologies have introduced more than 10,000 unique products in Health Care. As a prestigious Master 3M Converter, Tekra has access to the complete line of 3M™ Medical Materials and Technologies to support your application requirement.
Whether end product needs call for short-term use or long-term wear, 3M products provide excellent conformability, breathability, and hypoallergenic properties with adhesion ranging from gentle to aggressive.
LEXAN™ 8040 by SABIC is a distinct product that excels in medical applications such as ophthalmic solutions, instrument trays, medical diagnostics, and blister packaging. Polycarbonate has superior performance in thermoforming applications; its inherent properties are ideal to eliminate the whitening effect that can happen when a substrate is folded.
As a preferred collaborator with SABIC, any film attribute challenges are embraced by their R&D. Detailed information is shared. It’s a true collaboration and the beneficiary is our customers of medical products.
When cost is a sensitive production factor and certain material characteristics aren’t crucial for success, PVC rigid vinyl and polystyrene often fill the need. The cost/benefit ratio makes these substrates very attractive to segments of the disposables medical products industry.
